Learning project management for MilTech

What is MilTech, and how does project management differ in this field?

MilTech covers military and dual-use technologies: drones, communications equipment, optics, ammunition and other hardware-based weapons systems. Unlike software, a physical product moves from requirements definition to serial production. A MilTech project manager therefore works not only with sprints and backlogs, but also with manufacturing and supply constraints. Requirements need measurable acceptance criteria, while plans depend on component lead times. Project Manager in MilTech teaches you to work with these specifics: assess how changes affect the product, manage risks and plan projects around manufacturing constraints.

How Project Manager in MilTech differs from general project management courses

General project management courses teach the profession from scratch, covering Agile, Scrum, Jira and basic team roles. Project Manager in MilTech is a specialist course for people who already have this knowledge and these skills: graduates of relevant courses and practising PMs. Instead of repeating the basics, you will focus on MilTech specifics: working with product requirements, managing project budgets and risks, and planning around manufacturing constraints.

MilTech jobs: what a project manager needs to work in defence

As production of drones, communications equipment and other hardware-based weapons systems scales, demand for project managers in Ukraine’s defence sector is growing. Hardware projects in MilTech often involve office or production-site work because PMs coordinate with manufacturing, component suppliers and testing teams. Project Manager in MilTech prepares you for these specifics: working with product requirements, budgets, hardware-project risks and manufacturing constraints.

Who is the Project Manager in MilTech course for?

The course is designed for project managers who already know the basics of the profession but have not yet worked in defence. This includes graduates of Mate academy’s Project Manager course, practising IT project managers and PMs from other industries who have basic knowledge of Jira, Confluence, SDLC and engagement models. Defence-sector experience is not required, but a foundation in project management is essential.
